'Hundreds' Of Former Security Personnel Under Investigation Over Troubles

As many as 200 former security personnel are under official investigation for alleged crimes during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, according to reports.

According to the Guardian, the MOD estimates there are between 150 and 200 veterans and police being investigated over the troubles in Northern Ireland.

It comes after a former British soldier discovered they will face charges of murder and attempted murder over the Bloody Sunday shootings in Londonderry in 1972.

In response to the Guardian article, a Government spokesman has said: "The system to investigate the past needs to change to provide better outcomes for victims and survivors of the Troubles and to also ensure members of our armed forces and police are not disproportionally affected.

"We have always said that we will not introduce amnesties or immunities from prosecution in Northern Ireland."
